I'm Julie and welcome to WHATIWORETOWORK! This website started after I worked at a fashion magazine in Washington, D.C.--the dress code was "trendy business casual," a style conundrum even for a self-proclaimed fashionista.

After playing it safe on my first day and taking note of the ensembles in the cubicles surrounding me, I went home to my closet and soon learned to marry my post-grad business attire with fun, yet appropriate, pieces that made appearances in my college days and nights out in the District.

My daily fashion diary (in a GoogleDoc) became reality when, at the urging of my friends and family, I started to document my outfits and put the pen to paper (but really fingers to keyboard). Now that my day job is in a less casual setting, I get to challenge myself with putting the fun in formal and finding statement pieces that can last a lifetime in my closet.

Born and raised in the Chicago suburbs, I'm a midwestern girl at heart. School sent me down south to Georgia (Go Dawgs) and grad school brought me to D.C. (Hoya Saxa) where I live with my super mutt, Boone. My style is a total hodge-podge--in the best way. Some days I'm feeling boho chic, other days I'm classic and feminine. I like to be on trend, but steer clear of items I know won't stay in my closet more than a few seasons.

WHATIWORETOWORK is at heart, a fashion blog. But I hope to provide you with more than that: outfits for both in and out of the office, tips and tricks, and a look into my style inspiration. I hope you stay awhile! Take a look around and let me know what you wore to work. Hopefully some of my outfits will inspire you and you'll find WHATIWORETOWORK helpful, relatable and fun.
